Taliban supported the implementation of the polio vaccine
The Taliban have said they support the implementation of the polio vaccine program.
Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Taliban’s political bureau, wrote on his Twitter page today (Monday, 18th January) that the Taliban considered it their responsibility to provide health services to the people and to work with the World Health Organization in accordance with its principles.
One day ago, the Ministry of Public Health launched a nationwide 5-day polio vaccination campaign in which about 10 million children under the age of 5 are to be vaccinated.
The ministry says the lack of security in the country is the biggest challenge in implementing the polio vaccine, adding that they are concerned that 3.3 million children will be deprived of the vaccine due the door-to-door vaccine campaign in insecure areas of the country.
Meanwhile, representatives of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) met with Mullah Baradar yesterday and discussed how to implement the polio vaccine and treatment methods.
