This is “The Last Straw For The Turkmens”
Thousands took to the streets in Mazar-e-Sharif today to support the release of Abdul Rauf, a nine-year-old boy from Balkh.
Protesters are demanding the release of 9-year-old Abdul Rauf from the kidnappers.
Mohammad Nabi, the child’s father, was abducted and one of the organizers of the protests said that 100 days had passed since Abdul Rauf was abducted, but that the government had not taken any effective steps to free him.
He warned that if the government did not succeed in freeing Abdul Rauf within 72 hours, the Turkmens would block the transportation routes to the commercial ports of Hairatan, Aqina and Sher Khan Port.
According to Mohammad Nabi, 12 people have been arrested and are being investigated by the Taliban in connection with the abduction of Abdul Rauf.
The abducted child’s father also said that those arrested by the government had been released without bail and had not shared information with his family.
During their demonstrations, the Turkmens chanted “We want justice” and accused some people in the government of being involved in the abduction of Abdul Rauf.
Local officials in Balkh have not yet responded satisfactorily to the protesters
Earlier, Balkh Governor Farhad Azimi had said that more than 20 unsuccessful military operations had been completed to free the Turkmen child.
