EU Special Representative for Afghanistan met with Karzai and Abdullah

The EU envoy met separately with former President Hamid Karzai and Dr. Abdullah, Chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of the former Afghan government.

Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of the former Afghan government, announced on his Facebook page that he met with Thomas Nicholson, EU Representative, and said that they discussed about current situation in Afghanistan and providing lasting stability and better living conditions for the Afghan People.

During the meeting, Dr. Abdullah thanked the European Union for its humanitarian assistance and support for the peace process in Afghanistan, and stressed the need for increased humanitarian assistance and further cooperation in the fields of education, higher education and health.

Meanwhile, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also met yesterday with the EU Special Representative for Afghanistan and his accompanying delegation and emphasized to expand the EU’s comprehensive cooperation with Afghanistan, especially in improving higher education for girls and boys.

Earlier, Thomas Nicholson, the EU Special Representative for Afghanistan, tweeted that only the Afghan people had the right to decide on the nature of their government, and that the Taliban should recognize that right.
