Martin Griffiths called on the international community to support the Afghan people

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has called on the world community to support the Afghan people and to provide $ 4.4 billion in aid to Afghanistan.
“Ukraine is vital, but Afghanistan calls on our souls to be committed and loyal,” Martin Griffiths, the UN humanitarian co-ordinator, told reporters today in a special virtual conference on humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
“We have to prevent the worst from happening in Afghanistan, and that is why we call on the donors to step in and be generous,” he added.
In his speech, Griffiths stressed the need for countries to continue their cooperation with Afghanistan and called for $ 4.4 billion in aid to Afghanistan.
A special virtual conference on humanitarian aid to Afghanistan co-hosted by the United Nations, Britain, Germany and Qatar in Geneva today condemned the closure of girls’ schools in Afghanistan and called on the international community not to leave the Afghan people alone.
According to the host countries, 60% of the Afghan people now need urgent humanitarian assistance.
