Iranian Foreign Minister: Recognition of the Taliban government depends on the formation of an inclusive government

Iran’s foreign minister says his country will recognize the Taliban if the group forms an all-inclusive government.
“We continue to make the recognition of the interim governing body of Afghanistan conditional on the formation of an inclusive government in the country,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted as saying in a joint meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein in Tehran.
“We support the formation of an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan,” he said.
“A tragedy happened two days ago in front of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul and the Consulate General of our country in Herat.”
It is almost eight months after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, but the group’s government has not yet been recognized by any country.
