UN: The Taliban’s adherence to international treaties benefits the group

The Special Rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Afghanistan says that the Taliban’s adherence to international treaties is in the interest of the group’s government.

In an interview with TOLOnews, Richard Bennett, Special Rapporteur on the UN Human Rights Council in Afghanistan, emphasized that the Taliban’s adherence to international treaties would benefit the group, and said that his visit to Afghanistan would address serious human rights violations.

He added that during his visit he will continue to closely monitor allegations of arrests, disappearances and killings of former Afghan government employees and will share his findings with the United Nations.

Bennett also expressed concern about the closure of girls’ schools in Afghanistan, saying she would talk to Taliban officials to resolve the issue.

However, Bilal Karimi, the Taliban’s deputy spokesman, responded to the UN rapporteur by saying that the Taliban’s position and policy for the talks was that all issues that constitute the dimensions of our country’s foreign affairs would be included in the talks.
