Blocking girls’ schools in Afghanistan; The focus of the conversation between Abdullah and Thomas West

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan, in a conversation with Abdullah Abdullah, former Chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council, expressed his condolences over the recent attacks in Afghanistan.
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West tweeted that the conversation also discussed the return of girls to school.
“The desire of the Afghan people to return girls to high school as soon as possible was discussed,” he added. “As always, I received good advice.”
Last week, the US State Department warned that the closure of girls’ schools in Afghanistan by the Taliban would have dire consequences for the group.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price stressed that the closure of girls’ schools was against the Taliban’s promises, saying the Taliban’s move had disappointed millions of Afghans.
He called on the Taliban to remove obstacles to girls’ schools, adding that the United States and its international partners support Afghanistan’s education program.
The Taliban have said they are working on reopening girls’ schools, but have not said when they will reopen.
