Reina Amiri: The Taliban continue to oppress women and girls

In response to the Taliban’s new order on women’s hijab, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan said that the group would continue to oppress women and girls.
Reina Amiri, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, tweeted in response to the Taliban’s imposition of hijab on women and girls that the Taliban would continue to oppress women and girls instead of addressing the economic crisis and forming an inclusive government.
He called on the Taliban to end “this cruel act” and to reopen girls’ schools, giving women access to work.
Ministry of Promoting the Good and Forbidding the Bad of the Taliban yesterday issued a decree emphasizing that any clothing that covers the body is considered a hijab, so that it is not thin and tight, and that it is necessary for adult women to observe the hijab.
The decree states that in case of non-observance of hijab by any woman, her home will be known and her guardian will be punished.
On the other hand, a delegation has been appointed by the ministry to investigate the situation of the hijab, and the ministry has also told the media and the pulpits to preach about the ruling, importance and the benefits of the hijab and the harms of not wearing it.
