Richard Bennett met with former Afghan officials in Istanbul

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation in Afghanistan has met with Afghan political officials in Istanbul and said that the meetings were brief but fruitful.

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation in Afghanistan, tweeted that he had met with a number of civil society members, women human rights defenders, students, judges, former members of parliament and other former Afghan government officials in Istanbul.

He added that the meetings were informal and brief but useful, but did not elaborate.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights had previously called for an end to attacks on civilians in Afghanistan during his 11-day visit.

He also called for an end to the attacks on civilians in Afghanistan and said that the perpetrators of these attacks should be punished.
