SIGAR: The money that Ashraf Ghani took from Afghanistan was not more than one million dollars

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction has said that it is very unlikely that former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani took $ 169 million with him when he fled the country.

The US agency said in a report that at the time of the fall of Kabul to the Taliban, Ashraf Ghani and his entourage had probably taken $ 500,000 by helicopter while fleeing the country, and that the amount did not exceed $ 1 million.

A letter from US Special Inspector General John Sepco to US lawmakers states that the agency found in its investigation that Ashraf Ghani and his entourage had taken some money from the presidential palace, but that the amount did not exceed $ 1 million. And it might be $ 500,000.

SIGAR has stated that the investigation is not yet complete and that a final report will be released after further interviews.

Former President Ashraf Ghani and his entourage fled abroad in several helicopters last summer after Taliban forces entered Kabul.

The Russian embassy in Kabul later claimed that Ashraf Ghani and his entourage had taken $ 169 million in helicopters while fleeing Kabul.
