EU member states hold summit on Afghanistan

The EU Special Representative for Afghanistan has announced the holding of a meeting of EU member states on Afghanistan in Brussels.
EU Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas Nicholson tweeted today (Saturday) that he was concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation, especially the rights of women and ethnic groups, the lack of political participation and the Taliban’s inability to adopt and implement coherent policies for the Afghan people.
He emphasized that the EU was committed to supporting the Afghan people, adding that foreign experts in the field of human rights and economics had been working with them on Afghanistan.
One week ago, special envoys from the European Union and Central Asia held a meeting on Afghanistan in Kazakhstan.
The EU Special Representative tweeted about the meeting and noted that the meeting reaffirmed the international community’s initiatives to address the challenges facing the Afghan economy and stressed the importance of regional stability and the continuation of the dialogue.
