Afghanistan’s Representative in Geneva: International Community Efforts to Interaction with Taliban Stalled

Afghanistan’s representative in Geneva says the international community’s efforts to engage with the Taliban have stalled as much as possible.

Nasir Ahmad Andisheh, Afghanistan’s representative in Geneva, told a UN Human Rights Council meeting yesterday that the Taliban had now stripped women of their right to participate in politics and made them invisible in public life.

He emphasized that the Taliban had removed all rights and freedoms of Afghan citizens through repeated orders, adding that clashes had resumed in several parts of the country and that there were reports of human rights abuses, including killings, torture and the killing of war wounded.

The 50th annual meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in the world and Covid’s illness began 19 days ago and will continue for several weeks.
