Heider Barr criticized gender segregation at a meeting of Western ambassadors to Afghanistan

The head of the women’s section at Human Rights Watch criticized gender segregation at a meeting of Western ambassadors to Afghanistan, in Doha on girls’ education in Afghanistan.

“Can anyone share the gender segregation of Doha-based ambassadors in Afghanistan?” Heather Barr, head of the women’s section at Human Rights Watch, tweeted: Are the women in this photo ambassadors or are men?

Referring to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who said that the next UN Deputy Secretary-General would be a woman, she added that countries and institutions should appoint female ambassadors to Afghanistan.

Western ambassadors to Afghanistan at a meeting in Doha yesterday expressed concern about the closure of girls’ schools and restrictions on women’s education.
