SIGAR: A number of former army forces may have joined the Taliban

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) says a number of former Afghan army personnel may have joined the Taliban for personal gain.

A number of former Afghan troops may have joined the Taliban to meet their personal needs at lower levels, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction said today in a report quoted by the US Defense Intelligence Agency.

A number of other former Afghan army forces have also joined anti-Taliban groups, including ISIS, the Resistance Front, which operates in several Afghan provinces, the report said.

Sigar had previously reported that a number of former Afghan army commandos and forces had joined the Resistance Front led by Ahmad Massoud.

However, after the fall of the previous Afghan government, the majority of the former army forces migrated to neighboring countries, and some live inside the country for fear of losing their lives.
