Qatar: We are leaving the role of mediator between the US and the Taliban

Qatari officials say that if it is felt that interaction with the Taliban is not in the interest of the Afghan people, this country will give up its role as a mediator between the Taliban and the United States.

Some Qatari officials have told the Wall Street Journal that the goal of interacting with the Taliban is to improve the lives of the Afghan people, and not interacting with this group can cause more despair, poverty and extremism in Afghanistan.

The Wall Street Journal quoted these officials as saying that not engaging with the Taliban means abandoning the Afghan people when they need more help.

These officials defended the role of the Qatar government in Afghanistan and said that this country played a key role in ending the longest war in Afghanistan.

This is while during the peace talks, Qatar played the role of mediator between the Taliban and the United States, and now that the Taliban group has come to power in Afghanistan, Qatar is playing this role.

However, according to Qatari officials, this country has condemned human rights violations by the Taliban in Afghanistan many times before.
