World Health Organization: Afghanistan has a great opportunity to eliminate polio

Coinciding with the World Polio Eradication Day, global health organizations say that Afghanistan is closer to eradicating polio than ever before.

In a tweet today (Monday), the World Health Organization named Afghanistan and Pakistan as the only countries in the world where polio still exists, and the insecurity in these two countries has made it impossible to fully implement the vaccine for this disease.

Emphasizing that Afghanistan has a great opportunity to eradicate polio, this organization added that in 2021, only four cases of polio were registered in this country, while this figure was 56 in 2020.

It should be mentioned that before this the officials of the Ministry of Health of Pakistan have also said that this country can eradicate polio in a joint effort with Afghanistan.

Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Health Service of Pakistan, said that Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries still affected by polio.
