Afghanistan lost its membership in the Media Freedom Coalition

The World Coalition for Media Freedom has announced that Afghanistan has lost its membership in this organization.

The World Media Freedom Coalition (MFC) said in a statement yesterday (Friday) that Afghanistan has lost its membership as a member of this coalition.

This organization said that Afghanistan was removed from this organization in consultation with the members of the World Coalition for Media Freedom and in accordance with the terms of reference of the coalition.

The statement of this organization states: “For the Global Media Freedom Coalition, it is clear that the media freedom situation in Afghanistan is unfortunately no longer in line with the global commitment. “In fact, the current situation is one of serious concern.”

The World Coalition for Media Freedom added that the continuation of harassment, attacks and arrests of journalists by the Taliban and the exclusion of women from the media have caused the media in Afghanistan to lose their independence and the lives of journalists are in danger.

It should be mentioned that in 2020, during Ashraf Ghani’s government, Afghanistan became a member of the World Coalition for Media Freedom.
