The Central Bank called the US decision to transfer part of the country’s frozen reserves to Switzerland unfair

The Central Bank of Afghanistan, in response to the transfer of a part of Afghanistan’s frozen foreign exchange reserves by the United States to an institution in Switzerland, said that this decision is unfair and unacceptable.

The Central Bank of Afghanistan said in a statement that the decision of the United States regarding the establishment of an institution in Switzerland and the transfer of a part of the bank’s foreign exchange reserves there and allocating it to unrelated purposes is unfair.

According to the central bank, this decision was taken without taking into account the necessary standards of security and transparency and without paying attention to the concerns of the central bank of Afghanistan.

This bank added that the foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank are the property of the people of Afghanistan, so the decision of the United States, which was made in the absence of a representative from Afghanistan and without the participation of the Central Bank, is not acceptable.

Earlier, the Washington Post reported on the new US plan to transfer 3.5 billion dollars from Afghanistan’s frozen reserves to a new fund in Switzerland.

According to the report, this money, which will be provided to Swiss government officials and Afghanistan’s economic expert, will be used to help Afghanistan pay for its imports, including electricity, and will not be available to the Taliban.
