The death toll from the fire in the Salang tunnel reached 12

Officials of the Ministry of Public Works say that the number of dead and injured in the fire in the Salang tunnel has increased.

Hamidullah Misbah, the spokesman of the Ministry of Public Works of the caretaker government of the Taliban, says that the number of people who died in the fire in the Salang tunnel has reached 12 people and 37 people have been injured as a result of this incident.

According to him, women and children are among the dead, and there is a possibility of an increase in casualties.

He added that the road to the Salang tunnel is closed to all vehicles due to the collapse of a part of the tunnel roof. Currently, hundreds of passenger and cargo vehicles are waiting for the road to open on both sides of the tunnel.

Last night (Saturday) in the Salang tunnel, an oil tanker was separated from its body and caused a fire inside this tunnel.

Officials of the Ministry of Public Works say that this incident happened 50 meters inside the Salang tunnel.
