Iran called the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education against religious teachings

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran says that the prohibition of girls’ education in Afghanistan by the Taliban is incompatible with the teachings of Islam.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian called the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education in this country against religious teachings at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

He said: “Undoubtedly, the establishment of an inclusive government in Afghanistan can not only help the aid programs and the reconstruction of the country, but it will also reduce the threats caused by terrorist operations, refugees and drug trafficking for the region.”

The Foreign Minister of Iran further expressed his concern over the prohibition of girls’ education in Afghanistan and added that his country “considers the action of the Afghan ruling body in depriving women and girls of education as an action in conflict with the teachings of the merciful religion of Islam.”

It should be noted that currently all private and public universities in Afghanistan are closed to girls, and girls above the sixth grade are not allowed to go to school.
