Putin: 80% of drugs in the world market originate from Afghanistan

The President of Russia says that the cultivation of narcotics in Afghanistan is increasing and that most of the opium on the world market is of Afghan origin.

According to Sputnik, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was speaking at the multilateral meeting of the secretaries of the Security Councils about the situation in Afghanistan, said that the cultivation of areas for drug production in Afghanistan is growing and the situation is very difficult.

According to him, drug smuggling from Afghanistan is increasing and about 80% of poppy substances in the world market originate from Afghanistan.

Referring to the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the President of Russia said in this meeting that nearly 4 million people in this country need urgent humanitarian aid.

He said: “The situation in the country is not getting better, we can see it. The humanitarian situation is deteriorating. According to our data, nearly 4 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance.”

It should be mentioned that the fifth multilateral meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils regarding the situation in Afghanistan was held yesterday (Wednesday) in Moscow.

Representatives from India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in this meeting.
