Thomas Nicholson: The situation in Afghanistan will get worse

The EU Special Representative for Afghanistan says that the situation in this country will only get worse.

Thomas Nicholson, the EU’s special representative for Afghanistan, said in an interview with WION that the situation in Afghanistan will only get worse and the Taliban should think about the consequences of the decisions they make.

He said: “We have witnessed the systematic violation of human rights in the actual government, under the issuance of various orders by the Taliban, restricting the freedom of movement and the rights of girls and women. Suppression of journalists and ethnic and religious minorities who are under threat. “There is no constitution, the economy has declined rapidly since the Taliban took over, and the security situation inside Afghanistan is extremely worrying.”

According to Aghaq Nicholson, the European Union is still involved in Afghanistan through its diplomatic presence and the commitment of 400 million euros in humanitarian aid.

The representative of the European Union for Afghanistan regretted the Taliban’s decision to limit the access of people in need of humanitarian aid and added that the European Union will continue to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
