Khalilzad: Iran and Afghanistan should use the solutions of the agreement to solve the water issue

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former representative of the US in Afghanistan peace affairs, says that the leaders of Iran and Afghanistan should use the agreement signed between the two countries to solve the water issue.
He tweeted that Iran’s leaders are threatening Afghanistan with a range of hostile actions, including war, because they argue that Iran is not receiving water from Afghanistan that it should receive under a 1973 treaty between the two countries.
Khalilzad added that the Taliban officials accepted the agreement signed between the two countries and at the same time argued that the lower amount of water is due to drought and climate change.
He said that since both countries are committed to the 1973 treaty, they should use the solutions provided in the treaty itself for the conditions of the dispute.
