Two people died in Jawzjan after contracting Congo fever

Health officials in Jawzjan say that two people have contracted Congo fever in this province and died.

Zabihullah Hosseini, head of Jawzjan Public Health, says that 7 people, including a doctor, have contracted Congo fever in this province and two of them have died.

According to him, this disease had spread among doctors and health workers in this province two weeks ago.

Congo disease was first recorded in Afghanistan in 2008 and in 2011 it was observed in only five provinces.

Health officials say that the symptoms of this disease appear one to three days after being bitten by an infected tick and six days after contact with an infected animal. After a few days, this disease enters the bleeding stage. Bleeding is the main risk for the patient.
