At the start of the “Regional Cooperation Initiative” meeting, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban said, once again opposed the appointment of a special envoy by the UN secretary-general and said that the organization’s plans had nothing but war and instability. He also called for countries to respect the Taliban’s model of governance.
The meeting began Monday with the presence of ambassadors and special representatives of regional countries in Kabul.
The acting foreign minister of the Taliban called the meeting “a discussion and dialogue to shape a region-based narrative to develop regional cooperation for constructive engagement with Afghanistan and regional countries.”
He also called for respect for the group’s governance practices, saying, “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan respects the interests, choices, governance structures and development models of others, while also expecting others to respect Afghanistan’s interests, choices, governance models and development.”
The Taliban government is ready and has the capacity to discuss common issues and concerns with regional and international directions, he said.
