The first polio laboratory in Afghanistan opens in Kabul

Officials from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said the test was created to detect polio samples in Afghanistan.

Acting Minister of Public Health Qalandar Abad said that during this year, they plan to declare Afghanistan polio-free.

“Previously, polio samples were taken abroad for detection. In six months, the test will be able to detect polio samples in Afghanistan by itself. “We are trying to eliminate polio from Afghanistan this year.”

Meanwhile, officials at the Polio Virus Detection Lab said the test was built at a cost of US$800,000 from the WHO’s budget in Afghanistan and can detect 500 samples in a week.
