Interior Ministry: Nearly 2,000 Female Officers Serving Without Threats

Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, has reported that nearly 2,000 female security officers are actively working, mostly in service and inspection departments within the ministry.

Qani told that no female security officer, including those who worked under the previous government, has been threatened so far.

According to the spokesperson, threatening individuals is considered a crime by the Islamic Emirate.

Abdul Mateen Qani said: “No employee or member of the Ministry of Interior, especially female police officers, will face any personal or official threats due to their duties in the previous administration. If any threats arise from personal or family disputes, they should immediately inform the Ministry of Interior so that the police can address the matter.”

At the same time, some military experts and women’s rights activists consider the presence of women in military sectors, especially in the Ministry of Interior, beneficial for addressing women’s challenges.

“In Afghanistan’s traditional society, the presence of women in all government institutions is an urgent need, particularly in security institutions for operational and security duties. However, in a country with a population of around 40 million, the presence of 2,000 women is very small and insufficient,” Lamia Sherzai, a women’s rights activist, told .

“This brings changes in the morale of women, providing them with jobs. Simultaneously, it helps resolve women’s problems in a timely manner. In many places, there is even a shortage of women to conduct searches or to address women’s issues,” said Kamran Aman, a military expert.

Earlier, Human Rights Watch had claimed in a report that officials of the Islamic Emirate had threatened Afghan women who served in the police force under the previous government and had put them at risk.
