170,000 Tourists Visit Bamyan’s Historical and Natural Sites in Six Months

Around 170,000 tourists visited the historical sites, natural attractions, and ancient areas of Bamyan in the first six months of the current solar year.

The Bamyan Department of Information and Culture stated that nearly 1,000 of these visitors were foreign tourists.

Safiullah Raed, head of the Bamyan Department of Information and Culture, said: “In the past few months, we have had approximately 170,000 domestic tourists who visited historical and recreational sites, with most of them visiting Band-e Amir. Additionally, about 990 foreign tourists have visited the historical and recreational sites.”

Lakhsham Fortress is one of the remaining historical sites located 48 kilometers east of Bamyan, in the village of Bolola, within the Shibar district of this province.

This symbol of Bamyan’s ancient civilization has played a key role in attracting tourists to the region in recent years.

Local residents say that Lakhsham Fortress was built about 500 years ago on 10 acres of agricultural land with unique architecture.

However, over time, parts of this historical structure have been damaged due to rainfall and local neglect.

They urge the authorities to preserve and restore these historical sites in order to further develop the tourism industry in this province.

Abbas Safari, a resident of Shibar district, said: “This fortress was built with great effort and is one of the historical fortresses with over 500 years of history.”

Qurban, another resident of Shibar district, said: “Many tourists, both domestic and foreign, come to visit this place. This fortress is very historic, but it has now turned into ruins.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of historical landmarks and natural attractions in Bamyan’s central and district areas have turned this province into one of the most important tourist destinations in the country, though many of its historical and ancient sites are in dire need of maintenance and restoration.
