Islamic Emirate Calls for Realistic Policies from Next US President
With just one day remaining until the US presidential election, the Islamic Emirate has expressed that whoever is elected president must adopt realistic policies toward Afghanistan.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, stated: “The Islamic Emirate seeks good relations with all countries, including the United States. What matters to us is that whoever assumes power takes a realistic approach regarding Afghanistan.”
This comes as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, the two candidates in this year’s US presidential race, have frequently addressed issues like the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan and the signing of the Doha Agreement in their campaigns.
Trump has blamed Joe Biden, the current Democratic president, for the chaos surrounding the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in August 2021.
Meanwhile, Harris holds Trump responsible for signing the Doha Agreement, an accord that led to the withdrawal of US forces and the return of the Islamic Emirate to power in Afghanistan.
What implications does this election and the choice between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris hold for Afghanistan?
“I believe Republicans are somewhat more attentive to Afghanistan’s issues, as they criticize the US withdrawal and are not optimistic about the current situation in Afghanistan,” said Sayed Moqadam Amin, a political analyst.
“If Harris becomes president, she will likely follow her party’s policies like Biden, and we won’t see significant changes in the process. But if Trump wins, he intends to bring major changes in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, the Middle East, and Russia,” Moeen Gul Samkanai, another political analyst, told.
On Tuesday, November 5, American citizens will choose their next president from Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
