Iran’s Foreign Minister Appoints Alireza Bigdeli as Ambassador to Kabul
Iran’s Foreign Minister has dismissed the ambassador and special representative of the country’s president for Afghanistan and appointed Alireza Bigdeli as Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan.
Reports indicate that the newly appointed ambassador to Afghanistan has previous experience as Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Cyprus, and Turkey.
The IRNA news agency wrote: “Alireza Bigdeli has been appointed as the acting head of Iran’s embassy in Afghanistan. The foreign minister, in a decree, appointed Alireza Bigdeli as the acting representative of Iran in Kabul.”
“The hiring, dismissal, and replacement of officials by agencies and ministries of world countries is a routine practice. If Iran is changing its diplomats, it does not mean that the embassy will collapse. They have their own criteria to consider effectiveness,” said Aziz Maarej, a political analyst.
Iranian media reports also indicate that the position of special representative of Iran’s president for Afghanistan has been abolished, and the special representative will now operate under the Iranian foreign minister’s supervision.
“With his strong political and diplomatic skills and experience, he was able to play a significant role in expanding relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan,” said Najib Rahman Shamal, an international relations analyst.
The Islamic Emirate has yet to comment on the appointment of Alireza Bigdeli as the ambassador of Iran’s embassy in Afghanistan.
