New Iranian Envoy Pledges to Strengthen Ties with Afghanistan

Alireza Bigdeli, the newly appointed acting ambassador of Iran to Afghanistan, arrived in Kabul (Saturday, Novembre 30).

Bigdeli stated that his primary mission is to strengthen neighborly relations with Afghanistan and that he will work to expand ties between the two countries.

The acting ambassador of Iran in Kabul said: “I promise to use all my capabilities and experience to achieve our shared high goals of friendship, brotherhood, and deepening neighborly relations, God willing.”

He further added that improving the management of Afghan migrants in Iran is also among his key responsibilities.

Bigdeli emphasized that Iran expects Afghan migrants to enter the country legally, saying: “I will strive to organize the presence of Afghan nationals in our country and manage the movement of people. God willing, we will use this as an opportunity to strengthen relations.”

Faizanullah Naseri, the Deputy Chief of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that the new ambassador has significant experience in Afghan affairs and expressed hope for stronger relations during his tenure.

Naseri stated: “We hope that relations will expand significantly during his mission. He is a diplomat well-acquainted with Afghanistan and has worked in Afghan affairs. Certainly, relations will become broader and stronger.”

This comes after the Iranian Foreign Minister, earlier this month, dismissed Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the ambassador and special representative of Iran’s president for Afghanistan, and appointed Alireza Bigdeli as the new acting ambassador in Kabul.
