Foreign Ministry: Broad Relations With All Nations Sought, Including India
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, says that Afghanistan’s interim government seeks to establish broad and robust relations with India.
Takal emphasized that the Islamic Emirate aims to build strong, trust-based relationships with all regional and global countries, highlighting the importance of significant trade and economic cooperation.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wants to maintain broad relations with all countries in the region and the world, including India. Trust should prevail among nations, fostering trade, economic collaboration, and mutual engagement,” Takal said.
These remarks follow a recent report by the Indian newspaper Sunday Guardian, which quoted Islamic Emirate officials saying that now is the opportune time to strengthen relations between New Delhi and Kabul to counter Pakistan’s influence in Afghanistan.
Bilal Omar, an international relations analyst, told : “India has been one of Afghanistan’s key strategic partners. We shared strong trade and cultural ties, with many Afghan students studying in India and several Afghans residing there. Normalizing relations would benefit both India and Afghanistan.”
Sayed Akbar Sial Wardak, a political analyst, added: “India and Pakistan have historically taken a competitive approach in Afghanistan. I don’t believe Pakistan will hinder India’s relations with Afghanistan now. The time has come for regional powers like India and China to engage with the Islamic Emirate.”
Earlier, an Indian delegation led by J.P. Singh, India’s Joint Secretary for Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran, visited Kabul. The delegation held discussions with the acting ministers of foreign affairs and defense on strengthening ties between Kabul and New Delhi. Following this visit, Afghanistan’s Consulate General in Mumbai resumed operations.
