Islamic Emirate Consulate in Mumbai Pledges Support for Afghans in India
Ikramuddin Kamil, the acting consul of the Islamic Emirate in Mumbai, India, has assured Afghan citizens of continued support and facilitation of services.
According to a statement issued by the consulate, Ikramuddin Kamil, during a meeting with Indians of Afghan origin, emphasized the positive impact of Afghan citizens’ presence in India on bilateral relations between the two nations.
“The acting head of the consulate stated that the Consulate of Afghanistan in Mumbai is the home of Afghans, and its doors are open to them. He added that Afghans residing in India represent Afghanistan, and their presence positively influences Afghanistan-India relations,” the statement reads.
Salim Paigham, a political analyst, told : “Indians have very good and friendly relations with Afghans living in India, and I believe that the more these issues concerning Afghans are addressed, the stronger our relations will become.”
However, some Afghan migrants and students in India have raised concerns about challenges in obtaining educational documents, accessing consular services, and the lack of work rights in the country.
Haider Hadith, an Afghan migrant in India, said: “Getting a passport has become problematic for everyone because the prices have increased. A passport that used to cost $40 is now $130, which is very difficult for a family with six or eight members.”
This development comes as the Islamic Emirate had previously announced progress in its relations with the Indian government.
