Turkey: No Place for Kurdish Fighters in Syria’s Future
Turkey’s foreign minister said after talks with Syria’s de facto leader in Damascus on Sunday (December 22) that there was no room for Kurdish YPG Fighters in Syria’s future and that they must disband, and that all sanctions on Damascus must be lifted for the country to rebuild.
“In the coming period, the YPG must come to a point where it is no longer a threat to Syria’s national unity,” Fidan said.
According to Reuters, Fidan said Turkey was ready to support Syria in rebuilding efforts and said he hoped his visit would encourage more high-level contact from other countries.
Hakan Fidan is the first foreign minister to visit Damascus since Bashar al-Assad’s overthrow two weeks ago.
