Qatari Chargé d’Affaires Meets Senior Islamic Emirate Officials in Kabul
Mirdef Alqashouti, the new chargé d’affaires of Qatar’s embassy for Afghanistan, met with Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, acting minister of defense, and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, deputy prime minister for economic affairs.
During the meeting, Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid emphasized the importance of expanding relations between Kabul and Doha.
The development of economic relations was the central topic of discussions between Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Mirdef Alqashouti. The Qatari embassy’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul spoke about efforts to increase passenger and commercial flights between Kabul and Doha.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, said about the meeting: “In this meeting, both sides discussed the development of economic relations between Kabul and Doha. The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting negotiations and invited Qatari investors to take advantage of investment opportunities in Afghanistan.”
The Qatari chargé d’affaires also stated that his country is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in the fields of education and health.
“Maintaining relations with Qatar encourages regional countries to engage with the Taliban. Even if the Qatari delegation has come with political considerations or another agenda, it still represents a valuable opportunity for Afghanistan and its people,” said Aziz Maarej, a political analyst.
Qatar is considered one of the closest countries to the Islamic Emirate, and the political office of the Islamic Emirate also operates in the country.
