Foreign Ministry: ICC’s Request ‘Unfair and Political’

In a strong reaction, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate called the request for the arrest of Sheikh Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Islamic Emirate, and head of the Supreme Court Abdul Hakim Haqqani, a case of double standards, and a political move.

The ministry has rejected the accusations made by the International Criminal Court (ICC), adding that such actions undermine the credibility and standing of the court at the global level.

Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated: “Like many decisions of this court, this request is also unfair, biased, and politically motivated. The Islamic Emirate strongly condemns and rejects these baseless accusations.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi Omari, deputy minister of interior, speaking at a graduation ceremony at a religious school in Khost, stated that the ICC’s request is a failed attempt to achieve political goals. According to him, the request is unjust, and the ICC lacks independence.

The deputy minister said: “If this court were fair and honest, it should have prosecuted the United States first.”

This comes after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the leader of the Islamic Emirate, and head of the Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate, yesterday.

“This is an internal matter and can be resolved through dialogue and meetings within Afghanistan,” Abdul Jabbar Akbari, a university scholar, told .

Earlier, the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that six countries, including Chile, Costa Rica, Spain, France, Luxembourg, and Mexico, have referred the case of women’s and girls’ rights violations in Afghanistan to the ICC.
