Increase in exports and imports via Herat-Khawf railway.
Local officials in Herat report a significant increase in imports and exports via the Herat-Khawf railway.
According to statistics, in the past month, more than ten thousand tons of imported and exported goods have been transported via this route between Afghanistan and Iran.
Ahmadullah Mottaqi, head of Herat Information and Culture, said: “The first phase of the important Herat-Khawf railway project has been completed, and in the holy month of Jeddah, more than ten thousand tons of transfers have been made via this railway.”
The transfer of commercial goods via the Herat-Khawf railway between Afghanistan, Iran, and some countries in the region is considered very important in the growth of trade.
The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment emphasizes that the cost of transporting goods via this railway should be reduced compared to road transit.
Mohammad Yousuf Amin, executive director of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “The demand from traders and investors to use the railway is very high. They want to reduce the cost of railways compared to road transport. In trade, it is preferable for goods to be transported from one place to another at a lower price so that they can be offered to the consumer at a more reasonable price.”
Local officials in Herat also say that in the new solar year, passenger transport between Iran and Afghanistan will also begin via the Herat-Khawaf railway.
Mohammad Akbar Kargar, responsible for organizing the programs of the Roznak station of the Herat-Khawaf railway, said: “In the year 1404 AH, passenger trains will also start via the Herat-Khawaf railway.”
According to experts, Afghanistan will earn significant profits annually by connecting the countries of the region via railways.
Azizullah Samet, an expert on economic issues, said: “We have no choice but to pay more attention and focus on the development of railway lines. One of the main advantages of Afghanistan is its transit location. “Unfortunately, this opportunity has not been well utilized so far, but now that the conditions are in place, it should be utilized to its fullest.”
The Herat-Khawf railway connects Afghanistan to the Turkish and European markets via Iran. The final stages of construction of the route, which extends to the Herat Industrial City, are still underway.
