US Issues New Waiver for Humanitarian Aid Amid Freeze
Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, has issued a waiver for life-saving humanitarian assistance during a 90-day pause in foreign aid while Washington undertakes a review.
According to a Reuters report, Rubio also stated that all vital aid would be resumed within the next three months.
“Rubio defined life-saving humanitarian assistance as core life-saving medicine, medical services, food, shelter, and subsistence assistance, supplies and reasonable administrative costs as necessary to deliver such assistance,” the Reuters report reads.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy has praised this decision by the US and added that the Islamic Emirate is ready to strengthen engagement with all countries.
Abdul Latif Nazari, the Deputy Minister of Economy, told: “We want aid in the sectors of health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, disaster management, and social security to be exempted from suspension and provided to the dear people of Afghanistan.”
Like other countries, Afghanistan is in serious need of global humanitarian assistance to meet healthcare requirements and provide essential needs for some citizens.
“The continuation or exemption of aid in the sectors of health, education, and food assistance can play a significant role in stabilizing and improving the country’s situation,” said Qutbuddin Yaqubi, an economic analyst.
Earlier, the Ministry of Economy had reported that the operations of 50 aid organizations in Afghanistan had ceased due to the suspension of US foreign assistance.
