Islamic Emirate Seeks to Revive Kabul-Berlin Relations

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, has stressed the revival of relations between Kabul and Berlin.

Mujahid acknowledged that Germany has had long-standing relations with Afghanistan. In response to the report of the German Parliament’s Enquete Commission, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate stated that Germany played a role in the occupation of Afghanistan and the suffering of its citizens over the past twenty years and should compensate for it.

Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Unfortunately, the Germans were involved in the occupation of Afghanistan for twenty years, participating in killings, massacres, and the harassment of people. This must be compensated for. Now that the Islamic Emirate has come to power, it wants to establish good relations with all countries, including Germany. Germany is a country that has historically had long-standing, good, and trustworthy relations with Afghanistan.”

“These discussions are twofold—on one hand intelligence-based and on the other media-driven. I hope that relations with Afghanistan are established based on the national interests of both sides so that neither the nation nor the government suffers,” said Zalmay Afghanyar, a political analyst.

Previously, the German Parliament’s Enquete Commission reported that Germany’s twenty-year mission in Afghanistan had failed. Michael Müller, the commission chair, stressed the necessity of dialogue with Afghanistan’s caretaker government but clarified that this should not be perceived as collaboration with them.

German media quoted the commission chair as saying: “This is entirely in line with recommendations of Müller, who pointed out that the situation in Afghanistan today is catastrophic. While there was no need to open an embassy there, he said it was important that Germany be visible with personnel on the ground.”

“Now is the time for the German government to recognize the realities and restore its previous ties with the Afghan people to provide economic assistance and help us emerge from this dire economic situation,” said Salim Paigir, a political analyst.

Earlier, the German Foreign Minister had reaffirmed that Germany’s solidarity with the Afghan people remains unbreakable.
