Khalilzad Backs Musk on Shutting Down Radio Azadi, VOA

Elon Musk, Director of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Donald Trump’s administration, has called for the shutdown of Radio Azadi and Voice of America, labeling them a waste of American taxpayers’ money.
He wrote on X: ” It’s just radical left crazy people talking to themselves while torching $1B/year of US taxpayer money.”
Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, welcomed this and emphasized that the operations of these media outlets, especially Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, should be reviewed.
He wrote on X: “Those who closely follow those programs report that, far from supporting US policy, several of their country focused programs appear to be staffed by activists rather than journalists.”
He also said that American taxpayers’ money should not be used in ways that serve US adversaries.
Radio Azadi and Voice of America, which also operate in Afghanistan and several other countries, have not yet responded to these statements.
