Trump extends Biden administration sanctions on Russia for another year

US President Donald Trump has extended the sanctions imposed by former President Joe Biden on Russia in 2021 for another year.
According to a document published in the Official Gazette of the US Federal Government, Trump has extended Biden’s executive orders, which included the declaration of a state of emergency against Russia and the authorization to impose sanctions.
The document states: “Certain malign activities by the government of the Russian Federation continue to constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. For this reason, the national emergency should continue beyond April 15, 2025.”
The document also notes that Russia continues to be a threat to free elections and democratic institutions in the United States and its allies.
