Afghanistan Reaches Preliminary Agreement to Send Workers to Qatar

Amid growing complaints from daily wage workers about the lack of employment, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has announced that a preliminary agreement has been reached to send Afghan workers to Qatar.

Samiullah Ebrahimi, the ministry’s spokesperson, said that efforts are ongoing to finalize the draft agreement, after which a formal deal between the two countries will be signed.

Ebrahimi stated: “A preliminary understanding has been achieved, and the goal is to reach a final agreement after the draft is approved, so that under this framework, Afghan workers can legally be provided with job opportunities in Qatar.”

Abdul Zahoor Mudaber, an economic affairs analyst, said: “Afghan labor is generally cheaper than that of other countries, which can be a motivating factor for the Islamic Emirate. The lower the labor costs, the lower the production costs, and ultimately, the process can be managed more efficiently.”

Meanwhile, many workers in Kabul say that lack of job opportunities and sufficient income is one of the biggest challenges in their lives.

Subhanullah, a worker, told : “Everyone is unemployed from morning until night. We go to paint a room for 300 or 400 rupees, and even then, one room can’t be finished in a day.”

Safiullah, another worker, said: “The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs should help people find jobs, and if it’s not possible abroad, at least provide job opportunities within Kabul and across Afghanistan.”

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, more than 114,000 work permits were issued last year, covering individuals employed in both government institutions and the private sector.
