Doha to Host Meeting on Afghanistan’s Economy, Counter-Narcotics Efforts

The Doha Process working group meeting focusing on counter-narcotics and the private sector in Afghanistan will be held today (Monday, June 30) in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) stated that its leadership and representatives of the private sector will attend the meeting to seek international support.
It has been reported that representatives from regional countries will also participate in the session.
Jan Agha Naveed, spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “If the proposals from the ACCI, which are to be presented by the chamber’s leadership at this meeting, are accepted and supported, they will be crucial for Afghanistan’s economic survival and development.”
The chamber also stated that the acceptance of these private sector proposals would significantly improve Afghanistan’s path toward economic growth.
Some analysts view the UN-hosted working group meeting in Doha as a key opportunity to gain international support to address Afghanistan’s ongoing challenges.
Economic expert Shaker Yaqoubi said: “This meeting is an important opportunity for Afghanistan to draw global attention to its fragile and unstable economic situation, to advocate for lifting economic and trade sanctions and restrictions, to highlight the serious condition of returnee migrants from countries like Iran and Pakistan, and to attract international support for this vulnerable population.”
Previously, the United Nations described the working groups on counter-narcotics and the private sector as vital and emphasized the importance of active participation by all Central Asian countries in the process.
