Afghanistan and Iran Vow to Expand Trade Cooperation at Islam Qala Meeting

Economic delegations from Afghanistan and Iran, in a joint meeting at the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat, emphasized the expansion of trade cooperation between Kabul and Tehran.

Representatives from Afghanistan’s Ministries of Industry and Commerce, Mines and Petroleum, Agriculture, Finance, and Customs met with officials from Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization during the session.

Sibghatullah Akhundzada, Head of Investment at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, stated that trade relations between Afghanistan and Iran are expanding and that no obstacles currently exist in this regard.

The delegations of the two countries agreed to take steps toward resolving transit challenges, enhancing coordination, and reducing trade costs.

Meanwhile, Abdosada Neisi, Assistant to the Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, noted that Afghanistan’s Islam Qala customs and Iran’s Dogharoun customs require further development and expansion of infrastructure.

According to officials from both countries, annual trade exchanges between Afghanistan and Iran through the Islam Qala–Dogharoun border reach approximately four billion dollars.
