Kabul to Host International Energy Investment Conference with 22 Countries

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat has announced that it will host an international conference titled “Attracting Investment and Supporting the Electric Energy Sector” next week in Kabul.

The event will bring together representatives from 22 countries, aiming to strengthen cooperation and expand energy projects in Afghanistan.

Faridullah Sharafmal, Head of Investment Coordination at DABS, stated that the conference holds special importance for the Islamic Emirate, DABS, and both domestic and international investors.

He said: “The Conference on Attracting Investment and Supporting the Energy Sector is of particular importance for DABS, the Islamic Emirate, investors, and both national and international institutions. All investment opportunities within the electricity sector will be outlined during the event.”

Sharafmal emphasized that the conference will provide a platform for sharing capacities, resources, and expertise among domestic and international investors, and will create new opportunities for implementing large-scale energy projects.

He added: “Through this conference, we aim to connect the capacities of national and international investors.”

Some economic experts say that focusing on renewable energy such as solar and hydro power, and facilitating the investment process could put Afghanistan on a path toward energy self-sufficiency while also creating hundreds of job opportunities.

Qutbuddin Yaqubi, an economic analyst, said: “If DABS implements its energy plans in a structured and well-managed manner, it can play a vital role in improving the energy sector and strengthening Afghanistan’s economic infrastructure.”

Amanullah Ghalib, former head of DABS, also noted: “This conference holds multiple dimensions and advantages for investors.”

Previously, DABS signed contracts for four major electricity transmission and distribution projects with two Uzbek companies, in the presence of high-ranking officials from both countries, to help meet Afghanistan’s growing energy needs.

The head of DABS has identified electricity as one of Afghanistan’s essential needs and stressed that various government institutions are working toward achieving energy self-sufficiency in the country.
