World’s Cheapest Laser Weapon Unveiled: Apollo Capable of Destroying 50 Drones Per Minute

Australian defense technology company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has unveiled its advanced laser weapon, the Apollo.

Described as the world’s cheapest high-power laser system, the weapon is capable of destroying up to 50 Group 1-3 drones per minute with a power of 150 kilowatts, marking a milestone in the directed energy weapons market.

According to EOS, Apollo, which was unveiled on the eve of the DSEI 2025 defense exhibition in London (September 9-12), can destroy 20 to 50 drones per minute.

With a high rotation rate (less than 1.5 seconds for a 60-degree angle change), the system allows for rapid targeting and re-targeting, and when connected to an external power source, it has unlimited engagement capabilities.

The unveiling follows the signing of the first global export contract for a 100-kilowatt laser weapon in August 2025 with a NATO member country in Europe.
