High-Level Delegation Reviews Progress of Qosh Tepa Canal Project

A high-level delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Ahmad Jan Bilal, head of Emirati companies, and Abdul Rahman Attash, head of the National Development Company, has traveled to the northern provinces of the country to visit and assess the implementation progress of the major national Qosh Tepa Canal project.

During the visit, the leadership delegation stressed the need for standardized execution and acceleration of the project’s work process.

Nabiullah Arghandiwal, spokesperson for the National Development Company, said: “The purpose of this trip was to closely examine the recent progress of the project and provide necessary guidance to local officials to improve the quality and quantity of the work.”

According to officials at the National Development Company, construction work on the large Qosh Tepa irrigation canal is simultaneously ongoing in various sections.

Arghandiwal added that excavation work for the second phase of the canal has so far reached 95% completion, and along its route, construction of 15 bridges and water control structures is progressing rapidly.

He also stated that the canal’s weirs are approximately 85% complete.

The spokesperson stated: “All aspects of this project, from design to implementation and supervision, are being carried out by Afghan engineers. This is the first time in Afghanistan’s history that a project of this scale is being fully executed by Afghans.”

Meanwhile, several citizens working on this major national water project expressed satisfaction with the job opportunities and considered it beneficial for improving the country’s economic situation.

Mustafa, one of the workers, said: “We are very pleased with the government for creating job opportunities, enabling us to earn a halal income for our families.”

Mohammad Sakhi, another worker, added: “We are happy that large projects are being implemented in the country. We hope for more work and for job opportunities to expand for other citizens as well.”

The Qosh Tepa Canal is considered one of Afghanistan’s largest infrastructure and development projects. Originating from the Amu River, it will, upon completion, provide irrigation for thousands of hectares of agricultural land across Balkh, Jawzjan, and Faryab provinces.

This project marks a significant step toward self-sufficiency, agricultural development, and economic growth for Afghanistan.
