Islamic Emirate Reaffirms Anti-Corruption Commitment on Int’l Day

Administrative corruption is considered one of the most serious obstacles to economic and social development around the world, and Afghanistan has long struggled with this issue.

On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has reiterated its commitment to reducing and eliminating this phenomenon.

The deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate stated that combating administrative corruption, embezzlement, and land grabbing has been one of the government’s main priorities over the past four years.

Hamdullah Fitrat added: “Overall, the Islamic Emirate is committed to eradicating administrative corruption. For this purpose, we are working seriously on simplifying administrative processes. Efforts are underway to streamline all administrative tasks so that people can handle their affairs more easily.”

Economic experts also emphasize that fighting corruption is not solely the responsibility of government bodies, it requires close cooperation between the state, private sector, media, and citizens.

They also point to the creation of transparent mechanisms, facilitating public oversight, and modernizing administrative services as key global tools for reducing corruption.

Abdul Zuhor Modaber, another economic analyst, stated: “To eliminate or reduce corruption, it is essential to focus on two key areas: expertise and integrity. While specialists do exist, we need to appoint faithful, honest, and God-fearing individuals to improve the efficiency of government work.”

Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic expert, added: “If the systems are not modernized and administrative infrastructure is not built through them, corruption will certainly persist. The government should pay serious attention to this and work on fundamental reforms, as there are still issues in government offices that create obstacles for the people.”

International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed since 2003, following an initiative by the United Nations. It serves as an important opportunity for countries to review and strengthen their achievements, challenges, and strategies in the fight against corruption.
