WHO October Report on Diseases in Afghanistan

The World Health Organization has released its October report on several diseases in Afghanistan, indicating that no deaths from malaria occurred during the month and that cases declined by nearly 10%.

More than 15,200 people were infected with malaria in October, most of them from the eastern provinces of the country.

In the same month, 197 people died from respiratory diseases, marking a 54% increase compared to September.

Although no deaths were recorded from dengue fever, over 1,800 positive cases were reported, representing an increase of more than 514% compared to September. Most of these cases were registered in Nangarhar province.

According to the report, more than 309,000 people suffered from diarrhea in October, with only 8 fatalities.

Crimean-Congo fever affected 120 people during the month, with five fatalities. This represents a 25% decrease in cases compared to September. Most of these cases were reported in Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Kandahar, and Sheberghan.

Regarding measles, the WHO noted that over 3,700 positive cases were recorded in October, with five deaths. Most of these were in Kabul, Lashkargah, Taloqan, and Mazar-e-Sharif.

The WHO also stated that while it needed $279.7 million in funding, it had only received $123 million.
