GPS Devices Installed in Over 20,000 Vehicles to Boost Transport Safety

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation stated that over 20,000 GPS tracking devices have so far been installed in cargo and passenger vehicles across the country, and the process is ongoing.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the purpose of installing these devices is to improve road and passenger safety, prevent traffic accidents, and monitor vehicle speed.

He also added that nearly 13,000 GPS devices have been installed in cargo and passenger vehicles since the beginning of the current year alone.

Hekmatullah Asifi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, said: “The aim of installing these devices is to ensure that goods and passengers are transported more safely and efficiently. Since the start of the year 1404 (solar year), nearly 13,000 GPS devices have been installed, bringing the total number of equipped vehicles to over 20,000.”

Some passenger vehicle drivers say that widespread implementation of this program can significantly reduce fatalities from road accidents, especially on highways. However, they emphasize that in addition to technology use, strict enforcement of traffic laws and driver education are also necessary.

Hashmatullah Amini, a driver, “In the age of technology, GPS offers many advantages. For example, vehicle speeds can be limited to a specific cap, such as 105 km/h, which plays a key role in preventing traffic accidents on highways.”

Mohammad Yama, another driver, said: “GPS also allows the Ministry of Transport to contact drivers directly if they exceed speed limits and request them to slow down.”

Some passengers believe GPS installation is effective in reducing traffic incidents in the country.

Rohit, a passenger, said: “Wherever the vehicle may be, you can quickly get information about it through GPS. It’s been good that vehicles are now required to have these devices.”

These devices, also known as smart locks, provide real-time vehicle tracking. If a vehicle exceeds speed limits or deviates from its designated route, the system immediately records and reviews the data.
